Transport Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada jointly announced the end of COVID-19 vaccination mandates for all travellers effective 1 July 2026. Arriving passengers will no longer be asked for proof of vaccination or negative test results. The change applies to land, air and sea borders.
The decision follows a sustained decline in hospitalisations and aligns Canada with most G7 nations that removed similar rules in 2025. Airlines have already updated check-in systems to reflect the policy shift.
Masking remains recommended but not mandatory on flights and in airports. Health officials continue to monitor variants through wastewater surveillance.
Border officers retain authority to request medical documentation in individual cases showing symptoms.
What this means for you
Delete any stored vaccination records from travel apps as they are no longer required. Continue carrying regular travel insurance that covers medical emergencies abroad.
Check airline policies separately as some carriers still request voluntary disclosure for operational planning. Arrive at the airport with standard passport and customs documents only.
Monitor official Canadian government travel pages for any future reinstatement if new variants emerge.
