Auckland Airport opened its new Pier B international terminal on 20 May 2026 after four years of construction. The building includes 24 aircraft stands, 12 of which are equipped for wide-body aircraft. All check-in kiosks and security lanes use biometric technology to reduce processing times.
The terminal achieved a 5-star Green Star rating through extensive use of recycled materials and on-site renewable energy. Electric buses transport passengers between gates and the main terminal. Rainwater collected from the roof supplies 40 percent of the building's water needs.
Air New Zealand and Qantas have moved all long-haul operations to the new facility. United Airlines will relocate its Los Angeles flights in July. The airport authority expects passenger numbers to reach pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2026.
Travelers can access the terminal via a new rail link from the city center that opened simultaneously. Journey time from Britomart station is 18 minutes. Luggage storage and premium lounges are available on the departures level.
Border control uses automated gates for New Zealand and Australian citizens. Other nationalities complete immigration at 40 new manned counters. The airport has installed free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the building.
Future expansion plans include a second runway scheduled for completion in 2032. The terminal design allows for modular growth as passenger numbers increase. Auckland Airport aims to become carbon neutral by 2030.
