The right time to travel depends entirely on where you are going. A month that is perfect for Japan can be miserable in Brazil. Our tool covers 60+ destinations across all six continents, giving you monthly season ratings, typical temperatures, crowd levels, and a budget indicator so you can plan without surprises.
May, June, and September are the sweet spot for most of Europe. Crowds thin out after August, prices drop, and the weather stays warm across France, Spain, Italy, and Greece. Northern Europe — Norway, Iceland, Finland — peaks from June to August for the midnight sun. Winter is ideal for ski resorts in Austria and Switzerland.
November to March is dry season across Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bali. This is when most visitors arrive, so expect higher hotel prices. If you are flexible, shoulder months like April (hot but dry in Thailand) or October (end of rains in Vietnam) offer better value. The Philippines flips the calendar slightly, peaking December through May.
April is the most iconic month to visit Japan thanks to cherry blossom season, but it is also the most crowded and expensive. Late March and early May offer similar conditions with fewer people. Autumn (October and November) rivals spring for foliage and comfortable walking weather. Avoid the rainy season in June and the brutal heat of late July and August.
The dry season from June to October is the best time for wildlife safaris in Kenya, Tanzania, and Botswana, when animals gather around water sources and the grass is short enough to actually spot them. South Africa's Cape Town peaks in December through February (Southern Hemisphere summer). Morocco is best in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).
The Caribbean and Mexico's Pacific coast are best visited from December to April, outside hurricane season. Patagonia in Argentina and Chile is accessible from November to March. Peru's Machu Picchu is best in the dry season from May to September. Canada and the US national parks generally peak in July and August, though shoulder season in September offers excellent conditions with smaller crowds.
Australia has opposite seasons to Europe. Its summer (December to February) is ideal for Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef, though the northern tropics get heavy rain during that period. New Zealand peaks October through April. Fiji and the South Pacific are best from May to October during the dry season.
It depends entirely on your destination. April and May are ideal for Europe and Japan. December through February suits Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Caribbean. June through August works well for Scandinavia and Canada. Use the month selector above to see which destinations are in peak season for any given month.
May, June, and September are best for most of Western Europe. Temperatures are pleasant, daylight is long, and crowds are smaller than peak summer. Southern Europe (Greece, Spain, Italy) is ideal in June and September. July and August are extremely hot in the south and overcrowded almost everywhere.
November through March covers the dry season across most of Southeast Asia, making it the best window for Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bali. The Philippines is best from December to May. Monsoon season runs roughly June to October across the region.
Peak season is when a destination combines its best weather with its highest visitor numbers, typically bringing higher prices and larger crowds. It varies by country: Iceland peaks June to August, Morocco peaks March to May and September to November, and Thailand peaks November to February.
