United Airlines announced daily nonstop service from Chicago O'Hare to Singapore Changi beginning September 5 using Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Flight UA888 departs Chicago at 11:00 local time and arrives Singapore at 17:00 the next day. Return UA889 leaves Singapore at 21:00 and reaches Chicago at 06:00 the same calendar day.
The route replaces United's existing Chicago-Tokyo-Singapore connection that required an aircraft change. Premium economy and Polaris business class seats will be available on every flight with lie-flat beds. Initial schedule runs through March 2027 with possible seasonal increases.
The addition follows United's 2025 expansion of Asia frequencies after recovering pre-pandemic capacity. Singapore Changi handled 62 million passengers last year and ranks among the world's busiest international hubs. United cited strong corporate demand from Midwest technology and finance sectors.
What this means for you
Book the inaugural September 5 flight now for introductory fares starting at 1,099 USD roundtrip in economy. Select seats early as the 787-9 offers only 44 Polaris and 21 premium economy seats per flight. Connect onward to Bali or Bangkok with same-terminal transfers at Changi.
Avoid booking codeshare partners for this route to ensure United miles accrual and baggage through-checking. Download the United app for real-time gate updates during the long Pacific crossing.
The direct flight opens new opportunities for Midwest travellers to reach Southeast Asia without Tokyo layovers. Check United's website weekly for schedule adjustments during the first three months of operation.
