India Waives E-Visa Fees for Citizens of 6 Gulf Nations From August 5

India eliminates e-visa fees for travelers from six Gulf countries starting August 5. The policy covers Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman through December 2027. It aims to boost tourism numbers after a 12 percent drop in arrivals last year.

India will waive all e-visa fees for citizens of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman effective August 5. The waiver applies to 30-day tourist visas and lasts until December 31 2027. Officials expect 850000 additional visitors from these nations in the first year.

Applications must still be submitted online at least four days before travel. Multiple-entry options remain available at the standard 80 dollar rate after the initial free entry. The change does not affect citizens of other countries who continue paying the usual fees.

India introduced the e-visa system in 2014 and has since expanded it to 166 nations. Gulf travelers previously accounted for 9 percent of total tourist arrivals. The fee waiver mirrors similar moves by Thailand and Vietnam earlier this year.

What this means for you

Book flights now for travel after August 5 to take advantage of the zero-fee entry. Submit your e-visa application exactly four days before departure to avoid processing delays. Carry a printed confirmation and proof of onward travel at immigration counters in Delhi Mumbai and Goa.

Travelers already holding paid visas can apply for a refund through the Indian visa portal until September 30. Avoid third-party agents charging extra service fees during the rollout period.

The policy is expected to increase direct flight demand on routes from Dubai and Doha through the end of 2026.
