Turkish Airlines confirmed daily Istanbul-Cape Town flights begin October 12 with TK54 departing Istanbul at 14:20 and arriving Cape Town at 23:55. The return TK55 leaves Cape Town at 01:20 and arrives Istanbul at 13:05. Airbus A330-300 aircraft configured with 289 seats will operate the route.

The new service adds 2,023 weekly seats and reduces average journey time by four hours compared with existing one-stop options. Turkish Airlines already flies daily to Johannesburg and three times weekly to Durban.

South African Tourism welcomed the route as part of its 2026 Africa-Europe connectivity push. Cape Town International Airport will open a dedicated Turkish Airlines check-in zone on October 1.

Introductory round-trip fares start at 9,450 South African rand until September 30. The airline projects 85 percent load factors on the route within the first three months.

What this means for you

Book the inaugural October 12 flight now for fares under 10,000 rand round-trip. Connect onward to Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East via Istanbul with single-ticket protection. Select aisle seats in rows 20-30 for easier access to the two extra legroom lavatories.

Arrive at Cape Town airport three hours before departure because of new Turkish Airlines security procedures. Miles&Smiles members earn 7,850 miles on the new daily service.

The route improves access to Cape Town’s wine regions and Table Mountain for travellers from Turkey and surrounding markets.
