Turkish Airlines announced the new daily Istanbul-Cape Town route on June 19 with service beginning September 5. The flight operates with 300-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Introductory round-trip fares start at €549 in economy.
The route complements the existing Istanbul-Johannesburg service and targets growing leisure and business demand. Cape Town International Airport completed runway upgrades in 2025 to accommodate increased wide-body operations. Turkish Airlines expects to carry 180,000 passengers on the route in the first year.
The airline has expanded its African network to 35 destinations since 2023. Codeshare agreements with South African Airways provide connections to smaller domestic airports.
Ethiopian Airlines is evaluating a competing nonstop from Addis Ababa.
