Lufthansa Group announced a daily Frankfurt–Cape Town nonstop starting 15 November 2026 using Airbus A350-900 widebodies. Flight LH578 will depart Frankfurt at 23:15 and arrive Cape Town at 09:55 the next day.

The route fills a gap left when South African Airways reduced long-haul operations. Advance fares are available from €499 return in economy and €1,899 in business class.

Frankfurt serves as the primary European hub for Lufthansa’s Star Alliance partners, giving passengers seamless connections from 120 cities across Europe, North America and Asia.

What this means for you

Book now for November–March departures to lock in introductory fares before they rise closer to the holiday peak. Cape Town’s summer season offers optimal weather for wine routes and Table Mountain hikes.

Star Alliance members can earn and redeem miles on the new flight, making it attractive for European frequent flyers targeting South African safari extensions.

Travellers connecting from North America should allow at least two hours in Frankfurt for immigration and security transfers.
