Lufthansa confirmed the new schedule on June 13 with flights departing Frankfurt at 10:15 p.m. and arriving Cape Town at 9:45 a.m. the next day. Return flights leave Cape Town at 11:30 p.m. and reach Frankfurt at 10:00 a.m. Fares start at €620 round-trip for economy.

The carrier will deploy its newest A350-900 on the route, featuring 48 business class seats. Load factors on existing Johannesburg flights have exceeded 85 percent this year. Cape Town tourism officials requested the service to support summer travel.

Previous nonstop service ended during the pandemic when demand collapsed. South African Airways still flies the route three times weekly. European carriers have gradually restored African connections since 2023.

What this means for you

Book the new flight through Lufthansa.com for the lowest introductory fares available until July 15. Connect from other European cities via Frankfurt for seamless one-stop journeys. Avoid codeshare partners if you want full miles credit.

Pack for Cape Town's spring weather with layers and sun protection. Reserve rental cars early as demand spikes in October. Business class passengers receive priority boarding and lounge access.

Additional frequencies may be added in December if demand remains strong through the holiday period.
