Lufthansa confirmed the new daily Frankfurt-Cape Town service launching 15 July 2026 using Airbus A350-900 widebodies. Each flight offers 300 seats in three classes with lie-flat business seats. The 10-hour-40-minute journey departs Frankfurt at 22:10 and arrives at 08:50 local time.
The airline cited 28 percent growth in German tourism to South Africa last year as the main driver. Codeshare partners including United Airlines will feed connecting passengers from North America. Return flights depart Cape Town at 21:30 arriving Frankfurt at 08:10 the next day.
Fares start at €620 return in economy for July departures booked before 10 June. Business class introductory pricing begins at €2,450. The carrier will operate the route with its newest A350s featuring improved cabin air filtration.
Cape Town International Airport has upgraded its international terminal to handle the increased traffic. Ground handlers expect 180,000 additional passengers annually on this route alone. Local hotels report 22 percent occupancy gains for the peak season.
Passengers receive automatic rebooking protection if connections are missed due to delays. The service operates daily except during the December maintenance window. Lufthansa plans to add a second daily frequency by 2027.
Travel trade partners welcome the direct access reducing journey times by up to six hours versus one-stop options. Wine tourism packages combining Stellenbosch estates with Frankfurt departures are already selling out. The route strengthens economic ties between Europe and the Western Cape.
