India extends e-Visa validity from one year to 10 years for UK citizens effective September 1. Applicants pay 80 GBP for the new long-term visa instead of annual renewals. The e-Visa allows stays of up to 180 days per visit.

Processing remains 72 hours for approved applicants. The Ministry of Home Affairs published the notification on July 10. UK travellers already holding valid one-year e-Visas can upgrade at no extra cost until December 31.

India introduced e-Visas in 2014 and expanded eligibility to 166 countries by 2025. The UK ranks among the top five source markets with 1.2 million arrivals last year.

What this means for you

Apply for the 10-year e-Visa after August 25 via the official indianvisaonline.gov.in portal. Carry printed approval and passport valid for at least six months beyond travel dates. Families should apply together to keep entry records aligned.

Business travellers gain flexibility for multiple trips without reapplication. Avoid third-party agents charging extra service fees above the official 80 GBP rate.
