British Airways confirmed the new daily service on June 20 with flights BA83 departing Heathrow at 11:45 and arriving Hanoi at 06:05 the next day. Return BA84 leaves Hanoi at 11:25 and reaches London at 17:40. Introductory fares start at 685 pounds round-trip in economy and 1890 pounds in business class through October.
The airline selected the 787-9 for its fuel efficiency on the 10-hour 45-minute eastbound leg. Hanoi Noi Bai Airport completed a new international terminal in March that can handle 15 million passengers yearly. British Airways will codeshare the route with Vietnam Airlines for connections to Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.
The decision follows a 35 percent increase in UK leisure travel to Vietnam recorded by the Civil Aviation Authority in 2025. Vietnam relaxed visa requirements for British citizens to 45 days last December. Tourism officials in Hanoi report hotel construction projects adding 4200 rooms by the end of 2027.
Competitors including Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways currently route passengers through their hubs adding four to eight hours. British Airways expects to capture 28 percent of the UK-Vietnam market within the first year of operation.
What this means for you
Book the introductory fares before July 15 to secure the lowest prices and select seats early for the long-haul flight. British citizens should apply for the 45-day visa exemption online at least one week before departure. Pack a power bank because the 787-9 economy seats offer USB ports but limited AC outlets.
Consider arriving at Heathrow Terminal 5 three hours early during the first month as new check-in procedures are implemented. Avoid scheduling tight connections in Hanoi because customs processing can take up to 90 minutes for first-time visitors.
The route is scheduled to continue year-round with possible frequency increases to 10 weekly flights by summer 2027 if load factors exceed 82 percent.
