New Zealand Immigration announced a digital entry waiver for British citizens on June 21 2026 effective July 10. Applicants must complete an online form with passport and travel details. The waiver costs 35 New Zealand dollars and lasts two years for multiple entries.

The policy aims to increase arrivals from the United Kingdom which fell 12 percent last year. Approved travellers receive a QR code for faster airport processing. Those with criminal records must still apply for a full visa.

Background reveals New Zealand tightened entry rules during the pandemic and has gradually relaxed them since 2023. The UK remains a key source market for long-haul tourism. Similar waivers already exist for citizens of the United States and Canada.

Tourism New Zealand expects the waiver to add 85000 visitors annually. Airlines including Air New Zealand have increased London-Auckland frequencies accordingly. Border staff will receive training on the new system in July.

What this means for you

Apply for the waiver at least one week before travel via the official immigration portal. Print or save the QR code on your phone for arrival. Verify your passport validity exceeds six months beyond your planned stay.

Carry proof of sufficient funds and accommodation as officers may still request them. Avoid last-minute applications during peak summer months.

Further expansions to other European nations are under review for 2027. The system may integrate with existing ETA frameworks.
