Qatar Airways announced the new service during a June 22 press event in Doha. Flights depart daily at 3:15 a.m. from Hamad International and arrive Auckland at 6:40 a.m. the next day. Return flights leave Auckland at 11:55 p.m. and reach Doha at 6:10 a.m.
The carrier projects 120,000 passengers annually on the route. It fills a gap left after earlier seasonal services ended in 2023. Codeshare partners include Air New Zealand for domestic connections.
Background notes Auckland Airport handled 18 million passengers in 2025. Qatar's expansion follows its 2025 order for 50 additional wide-body jets. The airline already serves 12 Australian cities nonstop.
What this means for you
Reserve business class seats early as introductory fares start at $2,850 round-trip. Use the airline app to select lie-flat seats on the 777 fleet. Factor in the 17-hour flight duration when planning connections from Europe or Africa.
Combine the route with Qatar's stopover program for two free nights in Doha. Avoid peak December dates when fuel surcharges may increase by 12 percent.
The service strengthens year-round access to New Zealand's South Island. Future seasonal frequencies could rise if load factors exceed 85 percent.
