Qatar Airways confirmed the new daily Doha-Auckland flight on 27 May with fares starting at $1,099 one-way in economy. The first departure from Doha is scheduled for 15 July at 08:15 local time, arriving Auckland at 07:05 the following day.
The airline will deploy 777-300ERs configured with 42 business, 56 premium economy and 249 economy seats. Passengers in business class receive access to the new Auckland lounge opening in Terminal 2.
The route restores direct Middle East links to New Zealand after Air New Zealand withdrew its service two years ago due to high fuel costs. Qatar expects strong demand from transit passengers travelling between Europe and Oceania.
Introductory fares include a free stopover in Doha of up to four nights for business-class travellers. Economy passengers can add a stopover package from $199 including hotel and transfers.
Bookings opened immediately through the airline website and global sales offices. Codeshare partners British Airways and Air France will place their flight numbers on the service from day one.
Industry observers note the timing coincides with New Zealand’s winter tourism push and Qatar’s expanded summer schedule to the southern hemisphere.
