Qatar Airways confirmed the new daily service on May 28, with the inaugural flight scheduled for July 15. The route operates in both directions using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft configured with 42 business and 312 economy seats. Flight QR812 departs Doha at 08:15 and arrives Auckland at 07:55 the following day.
The addition strengthens connections between the Middle East and New Zealand's tourism sector. Auckland Airport expects an extra 130,000 passengers annually from the service. Tourism New Zealand has partnered with the airline for joint marketing campaigns targeting Gulf travelers.
Business class passengers receive access to the airline's new Doha lounge expansion completed in April. Economy fares start at 1,050 Qatari riyals one way for July travel. Codeshare agreements with Air New Zealand will extend reach to Christchurch and Wellington.
The route fills a gap left after previous seasonal services ended in 2024. Demand data showed strong interest from both leisure and visiting-friends markets. Cargo capacity on the flights will support New Zealand's seafood exports to the Middle East.
Passengers require valid New Zealand electronic travel authority or visa depending on nationality. Qatar Airways has updated its booking system to include the new flight numbers. Ground handling at Auckland has added dedicated check-in counters for the service.
Future expansion could include seasonal frequency increases during New Zealand's summer. The airline continues evaluating other long-haul opportunities from its Doha hub. Travelers should monitor fuel surcharges that may adjust with oil prices.
