The European Commission and Eurail Group launched a 15 percent discount on Interrail Global Passes on May 18. The offer applies to all pass durations bought before June 30 for travel until September 15. A one-month adult pass drops from 1,020 euros to 867 euros.
The initiative aims to reduce aviation emissions during peak summer months. Last year Interrail recorded 1.8 million passenger trips across the network. Officials project a further 25 percent increase in bookings due to the price cut.
Passes remain valid on 40,000 daily trains including high-speed services in France, Germany and Italy. Reservations for popular routes such as Paris to Barcelona still require separate fees of 10 to 30 euros. Youth and senior discounts stack with the promotion.
National railways added extra capacity on scenic routes through the Alps and along the Mediterranean coast. Mobile app updates allow offline timetable access and real-time seat reservations. Customer service hotlines in 12 languages operate 24 hours during July and August.
Travel agents note strong demand from U.S. and Canadian markets where the pass is marketed as a flexible alternative to point-to-point tickets. Average savings for a family of four reach 720 euros on a two-week itinerary. Refunds for unused passes remain available up to 30 days after purchase.
Border controls within the Schengen area continue to require passport checks on some international trains. Travellers should carry printed or digital copies of their pass and passport. The promotion excludes night trains and certain private operators in Eastern Europe.
The discount marks the third consecutive year of EU support for sustainable rail travel. Future extensions will depend on ridership data collected through October. Passengers are encouraged to book reservations early for popular summer corridors.
