Brazil announced on 22 May that it will waive all visa application fees for Indian citizens effective 1 June 2026. The policy covers both tourist and business visas processed through Brazilian consulates worldwide. Officials expect the change to increase Indian arrivals by 25 percent within the first year.
The decision stems from a March 2026 agreement between Brazilian and Indian tourism ministries. Current visa fees of approximately 80 USD will be removed entirely. Processing times remain unchanged at five to seven business days for most applicants.
Indian travellers planning summer holidays can now book flights without the previous fee barrier. Major gateways including São Paulo-Guarulhos and Rio de Janeiro will see added capacity from Indian carriers. Travel agents report a 40 percent rise in inquiries since the announcement.
Applicants must still complete the online e-visa form and provide proof of onward travel. Multiple-entry visas valid for up to ten years will remain available for frequent visitors. Children under 12 receive the waiver automatically.
The policy aligns with Brazil’s broader goal of attracting 10 million international visitors by 2027. Similar fee waivers already exist for citizens of Japan, Australia and Canada. Indian passport holders should apply at least two weeks before departure to avoid peak-season delays.
Airlines including LATAM and Air India plan joint promotions highlighting the new zero-fee entry. Tourism boards in Bahia and Amazonas will launch targeted marketing campaigns in Mumbai and Delhi. The waiver is set for annual review in May 2027.
