The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office revised its travel advice for Sri Lanka on 19 March 2026 following ongoing airspace restrictions in parts of the Middle East. Some flights from Colombo to the UK via Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi have experienced delays of up to six hours.

Travellers are encouraged to check with their airline at least 48 hours before departure and to consider alternative routings via India, Singapore or direct long-haul services where available. The advice remains at the standard “see our travel advice” level with no specific restrictions on travel to Sri Lanka itself.

Sri Lankan authorities have confirmed that all major tourist areas including Colombo, Kandy, Galle and the southern beaches remain fully accessible. No additional security measures have been imposed on visitors.

Hotels and tour operators in Sri Lanka report that bookings for the May–September high season are holding steady despite the regional disruptions. Many properties are offering flexible change policies for guests affected by flight delays.

Visitors should ensure they have comprehensive travel insurance that covers flight disruptions and consider purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival for real-time updates from airlines and the British High Commission.

The Sri Lankan Tourist Board has launched a dedicated hotline (1912) for international visitors seeking assistance with itinerary changes caused by regional flight adjustments.

Travel experts expect the situation to stabilise by late June once alternative flight corridors are fully established, allowing normal schedules to resume for the peak summer holiday period.
