Oceania: paradise with world-class safety.

Oceania is anchored by two of the safest countries on earth. Australia ranks 12th globally on the Global Peace Index; New Zealand ranks 4th. Both have high women's rights scores, excellent infrastructure, and harassment levels so low they barely register. If you want a first solo trip with essentially zero risk, these are your destinations.

The Pacific islands are a different story — still largely safe, but in a simpler way. Most are genuinely welcoming, low-crime environments where the main practical concerns are limited medical infrastructure and dengue mosquitoes rather than personal safety risks. French Polynesia and Palau add luxury and world-class diving to that equation. Fiji is the most popular and accessible.

The one country that requires serious caution is Papua New Guinea. High crime in Port Moresby, limited infrastructure, and significant risks for women outside of organised tour groups mean it shouldn't be visited independently. The highlands are genuinely extraordinary, but they need expert local guidance.

🇦🇺 World-class safety leaders

Australia and New Zealand rank in the global top 15 for safety with exceptional women's rights and virtually no harassment. Among the safest solo travel destinations on earth.

🏝 Paradise island destinations

From luxury French Polynesia to backpacker-friendly Fiji, the Pacific islands offer safe tropical experiences. Bring dengue repellent — it matters more than personal safety precautions.

🗣 English-friendly region

English is widely spoken across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and most of the Pacific. Navigation is straightforward throughout the region.

🥾 World-class diving and marine life

Palau, French Polynesia, Fiji, and Vanuatu offer some of the world's best diving. All have well-established safety standards and professional operators.
